WORDS OF VICTORY
“Expecting Something Great in 08”
December28th, 2008

From the Pastor’s Keyboard:

Welcome to one and all! We thank you for coming to the Lord’s House today and if you are visiting with us, it is surely our honor to have you with us.
It is so hard to believe this year is almost over. It seems as if it was yesterday when we began the year and we were expecting something great. But, here we are with another year passing and a new year coming upon us.
Today, I would like to conclude our thought from Isaiah 9:6. The verse states: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” As we saw last week, the Lord Jesus Christ transformed everything when He was born. We have seen that He was to be called Wonderful. This title takes care of the Dullness of Life. He is the Counsellor; This takes care of the Decisions of Life, and then there was the Mighty God and this takes care of the demands of Life.       There are two remaining titles that I’d like to briefly share with you.
The first is the Everlasting Father. This takes care of the Dimensions of Life. As the Father of the redeemed, He supplies for us. There is nothing in our lives that HE cannot provide for us. He is the Everlasting Father and no matter what may come our way, He is able to take care of that dimension of life for us. That is just the way He is. There is none other like Him. He is there to help us with our plans, He is there to provide for us, and He is there to protect us. What a great Father He is.
The last title given in this passage is the Prince of Peace. This takes care of the Disturbances of Life. We are told in John 14: that He gives peace and that He left peace with us. As we consider Him as the Prince of Peace, we are reminded of at least three things. This title involves His character. He was a man of peace. It was His character to bring peace to troubled hearts. From giving His disciples peace on the sea, to feeding 5,000, to raising the dead, He was always there to help those with great need. He was able to give peace the demon possessed in the grave yard. When everyone else was leery and troubled, He spoke peace! This title also involves His Cross. Had He not died on the cross, there would be no peace. But, when He died peace was the result. It took His blood to make peace between God and man and thank God He succeeded. This title also involves His Companionship. Through our relationship, we now have a divine and different peace. Thank God, He has the ability to take care of our ever need.
            Happy in His Service,
            Pastor Calvin
