Controversy is over biblical issue, not political one

“For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.” -Matthew 19:5-6

“Without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only to do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” -Romans 1:31-32

There is a bill currently in the Indiana Statehouse that has drawn much attention and opinion. It is the bill that will give the voters of Indiana the choice to vote that marriage should be between a man and a woman and that no other marriage will be recognized in our state. Thank God for this bill!
But, I have heard folks say that this should not be discussed in the Statehouse, for this is not a political issue. I could not agree more.
This is a BIBLICAL issue. As the verses above state, God never intended for a man to marry a man and a woman to marry a woman. He instituted the home as a man and a woman, two flesh, becoming one flesh, one heart, and one mind. However, in this land in which we live, as with most other things, we have moved away from the Word of God.
It is a shame to think that this would have to be discussed, much less voted on. As a citizen of this great state, I have the right to stand for what is right and to voice what the Word of God has to say. I am glad that God has placed people in the place of leadership to bring this before the assembly. Not so they can draw attention or gain fame, not so they could make this a political issue, but so they too can stand for what is right.
Many have asked how God would handle this if He were present. He is present, and His Word plainly tells us how He would handle it. Romans 1 tells us that He will judge those which commit these things and also those that have pleasure in them. God does not accept nor condone an alternative lifestyle. In the very beginning, God made man and saw that it was not good for him to be alone. Therefore, He made from his flesh a help meet. This help meet was a woman, a weaker vessel. The woman is a weaker vessel so her husband can cherish, honor, and be heirs together with her. There should be no confusion as to what God instituted with marriage in mind.
Throughout the Bible God has always made provision for man. He has also made provision for sin. But, God has never accepted sin. This is not a belief of hatred or intolerance, it is one of respect. That is, respect for the institution of family values as ordained by God.
By the way, although people have changed, and times have changed, God hasn’t changed His mind, nor will He. In fact, He assures us of this in His Word as well. In Malachi 3:6 He says: “For I am the Lord, I change not.” This indicates to us that His thoughts to this matter today are the same as they were when He moved on holy men of old to write the Word of God.
While there have been many who have rejected His Word, rewrote His Word, and reduced His Word, God’s thoughts are still the same. This is not a new principle hatched up to cause a stir, this is the eternal plan of God.
Yes, God does love everyone so much that He gave His only begotten Son for all mankind, but He hates sin. Therefore, all those that live in willful sin will be judged by God because they have chosen a Christless life. It is not people that God hates, it is the sin of people.
The very foundation of our country rests upon our willingness to hold true to Biblical principles so that God will continue to bless this great nation which was based on freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. We must get back to values and morals that are pleasing unto the Lord, or else face judgment.
May we as individuals, communities, states, and a country be found faithful to the cause of Christ.
